Punto de Cruz
Rooted in the heart of the Yucatán Peninsula, Punto de Cruz - "xocbichuy" or cross -stitch is an ancestral embroidery technique that reflects centuries of cultural heritage, artistry, and tradition. Its origins trace back to pre-Hispanic Mayan women, who adorned garments with symbolic motifs using colored threads. Over time, indigenous practices merged with European cross-stitch techniques, giving rise to the distinctive style known today.
Each design is first drawn by hand on a canvas, then carefully embroidered stitch by stitch over the fabric. Once complete, the canvas is removed, leaving the embroidery seamlessly woven into the textile. More than decoration, Punto de Cruz is a quiet expression of patience, tradition, and enduring beauty.
